"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me..."

Worship and Learning -Fall
Bread for the Journey begins Wednesday, September 13th. As a church community, we gather together on Wednesday evenings for our mid-week lift. This is a time to rejuvenate and keep us going throughout our busy week. Everyone is invited to join us and connect with others.
5:15pm Activities
6:00 pm Home-cooked meal
6:30pm Worship-see Discipleship 101 schedule. Please note Wednesday, September 20th at 7 pm on your calendar to hear the "Backstrom Family Story" at the Lincoln Auditorium. The Backstrom family is a Christian family from Southern Minnesota who lost their three sons/brothers in a tragic car accident in October of 2004. Three sober brothers wearing seat belts and driving responsibly, were killed when one young man made 3 deadly choices.
This family has relied on their strong faith to get them through this enormous tragedy and their faith has helped them spread the word to others about the danger of drinking and driving. This is a story that brings a strong message to both teens and adults about how our choices can affect others. We hope that you consider allowing your youth to attend this story of faith, love, mercy, and forgiveness.

You'll be glad to hear that I've opened my Bible, tried some devotions, am praying more, and can you believe it, talked about Christianity outside the church! I have learned so much this summer. I've learned everything from how to deal with kids for the first time to learning how to be a Resource Leader at Camp Vermilion and Hiawatha.I'd like to first talk about my VBS/Day Camp experiences. I have not been around kids of any age, so the idea of teaching rowdy kids was almost appalling. As Donna often has to tell me, "We won't know the effect for years to come or we may never know how it effects them." I don't know about you, but I like to see the results of my efforts right away. The only problem is we just plant the seeds and/or nurture the baby plant. We never see the whole tree until much later in life, just like in Matthew 13:31-32 about the Mustard Seed. We also need to stop focusing on ourselves.
One of the lessons that I taught the Pre-K kids I worked with was how Peter walked on the water. When he kept his eyes on Jesus he could accomplish anything. Whenever we take our eyes off Jesus we sink. By demanding to see the results of our labor right away we forget about the message Jesus came to tell us. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life," John 3:16. I know I forget about Jesus' love and get caught up in the everyday happenings that I forget to focus my attention on him.
By teaching these kids I was redirected toward Jesus. It took kids whom I had never met before to lead me back. Ossie Schock has often told me, "You may go in thinking you're going to give them the world but they end up giving it to you instead." I also want to add a huge Thank You to every Sunday school teacher. You help show so many children just how much Jesus loves them and how important they really are.
As Megan wrote, while an Intern at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, "I have been blessed." I have been blessed. I have had a wonderful opportunity to try and grow in my faith. I've surrounded myself among other believers, and an example of a strong believer is Donna Hoag. She has shown me several times only glimpses of her faith. It runs deep and is very catch-able. The fact that I get to work in this amazing church is a miracle. I don't know why God placed me here but I hope I fulfilled what this congregation expected of me and I hope that Jesus was able to use me to reach out and spread his word.
Here I am again, shy, timid, and old fashioned. Yet maybe there is something slightly different about me. I started out this summer thinking is it ever going to end? Now I dread the day I have to go back to school. I don't want this summer to end. I don't want this job to end. Maybe I feel with it ending my new found faith will also end.
There are so many ways that I can keep this faith going, though. I see it as volunteering at my church down at school and whenever I come home do what I can for my home church. They could be as simple as putting a scrapbook page in the church scrapbook to helping with the nursery, helping set up the tables before an event to cleaning them up after it's done. What was I flunking when I applied for this internship at Our Savior's Lutheran Church? Now I understand at least this much, it's part of God's plan for my life.

It's the end of the world as we know it. Or is it? Just about every time you turn on the news these days the message is bad. All around we hear voices claiming that current political events are signs that the end is coming, according to God's master plan. Are we really living in the end times, with some cosmic clock ticking down the final moments for this earth? Or is God's plan for the world found elsewhere?
Come explore these questions and more as we study the Book of Revelation on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. (beginning September 20th) or Sundays at 9:20 a.m. (beginning September 24th). We will use the book The Rapture Exposed: The Message of Hope in the Book of Revelation by Barbara K. Rossing, and discuss a variety of topics, including the ideas behind the Left Behind© series and other end-times rhetoric.
Books are available in the church office for $10 for those who would like to read on their own, but are not required for the study. Just bring your Bible and your questions about this timely and mysterious topic!
