Report on Hunger Offering at the Assembly

The Northeastern MN Synod Assembly was held at the DECC the end of April and I was privileged to be a delegate for Our Saviors. The DECC was alive with the colors of beautiful quilts made and donated by church women from all over the synod. The Market Place displayed a wonderful variety of hand made articles. Add to that the quarters each congregation collected. Donations for quilts - $16,350.00; quarters - $30,004.32; and the Market Place - $4,141.25 made a grand total of $51,485.57 for ELCA World Hunger. Praise the Lord!

The Holy Cow Award was given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedarbrook. Their per confirmed member giving is $25.56.

OSLC's Hunger Committee -A Minnesota Without Poverty

There were many resolutions passed at the assembly but as a member of Our Savior's Hunger Committee I would like to report on Resolution 07-5. It is a ck poverty with acts of direst service, advocacy, and with alliances within the faith community and others in society who share the commitment to overcome poverty.

Therefore, on June 10th, our Hunger Committee will present a petition for signatures acted upon during the assembly. This petition will be available in the narthex if you would like to join in with hunger advocates from Minnesota. It will be presented to Minnesota's governor and legislators along with petitions from the other 5 ELCA MN Synods and other faith communities in MN.

Have you visited BOTH of your camps yet?

On Wednesday, July 25th a bus will leave Zion Lutheran in Grand Rapids and spend the morning at Camp Hiawatha with campers, take a "Stockholders Camp Inspection Tour!" and have lunch before heading to Camp Vermilion. Enjoy a tour and have supper at Camp Vermilion and be back in Grand Rapids around 8:30 p.m.

Simply Giving

June, July, and August are our months for being outdoors, vacationing, entertaining visiting friends and relatives, and moving kids in and out. God be with you as you enjoy this family time. When you spend a weekend at home this summer, we hope you'll join us for worship and fellowship on Sunday mornings and bring your guests.

If you are a guest at someone else's church, we invite you to continue your commitment to Our Savior's by using the Simply Giving Program or dropping off your offering envelope in the church office. Simply Giving continues to allow members to make their contributions via electronic funds transfer without cost to the participant. By providing this convenient means of making payments, your church can enjoy steadier cash flow and greater financial stability. The church office can assist you in implementing this process. This is a message from the Stewardship Committee.

Social Action/Hunger Committee

Look around and what do you see? I see buds on trees, white fluff flying through the air. The earth is beginning to bud and quack grass is overtaking my flower beds. At this moment it is raining and warm. What a great land we have given to us through God's creation.

Have you planted your garden yet? I do pots and have fresh lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cukes, and herbs. It is so nice to taste the freshness of the produce. Also, the farmers' market will be opening soon. We can have an impact on the farming industry by buying locally. And I also thank God for the people who are willing to share their garden abundance. Last year I used rhubarb and zucchini given in quantities I couldn't handle. Pass it on is my motto.

In July, there is a conference scheduled concerning Lake Superior. The water will be the issue as some of the water shed is in jeopardy. More will be in your up-coming bulletins concerning the conference. LCPPM will be a part of that meeting.

Great is the Lord and we have been appointed to be good stewards of the world's resources. After all, we're here for so short a time and a difference can be made one by one. Please read Psalm 33 and realize we are important in God's world.

Do you have bedtime prayers that you say at your house at the end of the day?  Please send Donna the table graces and bedtimes prayers that your family uses. Nursery volunteers.  we need your kind hearts and hands to keep the Nursery open with volunteer help!  If we all took one turn per year, the nursery would be fully staffed each Sunday!  Please call Donna Hoag at 263-7422 or 263-8103 to volunteer your time!  This can be a great family volunteer activity.

Softball players - softball season is just around the corner!  Anyone interested in playing on the Men's Church Softball Team should please contact the church office.
