A Message From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is risen! Yes, we are still in the midst of our Easter celebration, so this is a fitting salutation indeed! Sometimes, especially this time of year, we may forget that the Easter season is in fact fifty great days. I think most of us are better about marking the forty days of Lent, and fail to recognize that Easter is a whole season, not just one triumphant morning. We celebrate the risen Christ and God's victory over death, not just in these fifty days, but every Sunday as we come together in worship.

Now that it seems spring is finally upon us, many will begin to hear the call of the cabin and feel the lure of the lake. There is something very special about revisiting these family places, and no doubt you have some time-honored traditions for opening the cabin, getting the boat out and ready, and making those places feel like home away from home once more. It is a good time to think about other rituals and traditions you could begin. Do you have a cross hanging somewhere hi your cabin? If not, here's a chance to get creative and make one out of things you find outside that remind you of God's presence in that place. Many people say they feel closer to God when at the lake or cabin, so consider making a symbol to represent that closeness. Do you have any special rituals for the first weekend away? Consider saying a prayer of blessing when you first arrive, and another when you leave. Thank God for the beauty of creation, and ask God to keep everyone safe while you are there. Upon leaving, say a prayer of thanks for the time of rest, and ask for safe travels back home, and strength to make hi through the week to come. Mealtimes are also good times to pray together, even at the cabin. Or, prayer around a campfire can be a special time to connect with God and family members alike.

Even though you may be away from town many weekends throughout the summer, remember that God goes with you wherever you are. And remember that your church family is thinking of you in your absence. I hope you will find a time and place to worship throughout these summer months. To that end, we have scheduled three Wednesday night worship opportunities, offering a chance to reconnect with others, hear God's word and share in the Lord's Supper. Plus, there will be ice cream!  All are welcome June 20th and July 25th at 6:30 pm at OSLC. In August we will come together for the annual worship and BBQ at Bennett Park. May God's richest blessings be yours, now and always.

In Christ,

Pastor Kathy
